A Room a Day #6

I had to carve out a little space somewhere in the house for all my crafting supplies as well as a place to work on crafting. So here is my laundry room/craft corner. I try to not let the laundry overtake the room or a project in progress either, since they clearly share a small space. I would like to paint a fun color in here but havn't gotten to it yet. Any suggestions?

This was a revamp of an old IKEA box I had been storing makeup/jewelry in for years.
A little paper and mod podge go a long way.

Brett made this peg board for my birthday (I girlified it with more mod podge).

Here's where the sewing action happens. It isn't the most comfortable way to sew, since I have to perch on a bar stool and lean over the counter (especially challenging when you are 9 months pregnant!) Don't you love my threads?

A Room a Day #5

So here's our bedroom. Don't really like the pic but to take another one I would have to actually make the bed and remove the pile of laundry that is living on the chair. I got in on the tail end of the brown/blue/orange color scheme and would love to change it to charcoal gray/yellow/aqua already. Gray is the new brown, which was the new black, and yellow is the new orange, which was the new red...or so they say.

A Room a Day #4

So can you consider a hallway a room? First the "all you need is love" sign is thanks to Steph and her hubby. I have plans to expand this photo wall and update pics but haven't yet. I try to actually notice them as I walk by dozens of times each day and remember the incredible moments in our lives that are passing so quickly. The silhouettes are thanks to Nie Nie. (who has them amazingly displayed- unlike me!) She updates her kids silhouettes each year and keeps them all to look back on. I obviously haven't gotten to Leighton's yet. You try getting a newborn to sit up straight and face the wall for a picture. Maybe I should try to freehand it. How hard can a bald head be really?

A Room a Day #3

Here is the girliest room in the house. It actually started off as being a woodland friends earthy colors theme and somehow morphed into this. Pink, princess, ballerina, crowns, jewels, etc. This is Ellie's bed, and if you took the picture and doubled it you would have the complete room because Brooklyn's is identical on the other side. Yes both still in toddler beds. I figure it gives them more room to play and since they spend a good portion of the night in our bed anyway it doesn't really matter.
The greatest features of their room are the lighting- 3 windows (which are rare in a duplex), and the enormous walk in closet.

I would need about 15 of these if I tried to display all the art these girls create.


Found these art pieces at Target but they seemed a little small on the wall
so I added the ribbon and knobs from Anthro.

A Room a Day #2

I guess you could technically call this pic the dining room. But if you can imagine the pic from the last post put next to this one, you would have a realistic view of the living room/dining room/kitchen that basically make up the entire downstairs. I love having wood flooring under the table (as opposed to the hideous idea of carpet in our last place) although I will admit it doesn't get swept as often as it should. I think I need to add that to someone's chore list...someone small that can fit under the table.

A Room a Day #1

Just over a year a year ago, we moved into our current house. Against all odds, we nailed down a foreclosure in this absolutely insane market and basically got the place for 50% off its original price. It was a total roller coaster ride and there were numerous points in the ride where I was on the verge of barfing and screaming to get off. But thanks to Brett's persistence and vision, my parents willingness to house us for 7 months, and the grace of God, somehow it worked. So this week, I will attempt to post a picture of each room in the house to give you a glimpse into our nest and to dispel any rumors that we're still living with the folks.


Here's a before pic just for fun... and yes we did have to keep the oak banister. Sanding and re-staining spindles, yeah right...I had to let that one go. And please note the off center fireplace...don't get it.

I could feel her sucking it in the womb and she's been at it ever since. It has been the source of many illnesses, bucking baby teeth, and the greatest comfort a child could know.

I've put the "close" in closet

I have been trying to motivate myself and find the time to reorganize my closet. I am blessed with a large walk in closet (I guess its still considered a walk in even iff there's too much stuff on teh floor for you to actually walk in). I also have a husband who doesn't own much in the way of clothes. So I have a lot of space. Which has been good considering I have clothes ranging in size form XS to L and jeans form size 1 to size 10. And now since the baby shop is offically closed, I can start weeding out the things I pray I'll never fit into again. I started with giving away the majority of my maternity clothes (some were too hideous to admit I even owned). And I am happy to say anything above a 6 is out as well. Looks like a trip to the Goodwill drop off is in order. And hopefully a pic to show my progress.

Fruity Desserts

I've heard a lot about Pioneer Woman and her amazing blog. This week I tried two of her recipes. The first was amazing, creamy lemon crumb squares. But I would like to change the name to Lemonitas. They are a cousin to the world famous Carmelitas (whose recipe was top secret for years)- the secret I would like in on however is how to get them out of the pan without breaking your spatula or your wrist. Anyway, back to the Lemonitas...a snap to make and they look as perfect as the pictures on the blog. Today was blackberry cobbler. Lucky for me the blackberries were on sale at Henry's and the checker let me go over my "family limit 4" to get enough to make it. Can't wait to heat it up and top it off with vanilla ice cream (a must for all pies and cobblers in my book). Hopefully is tastes as good as it looks!

Baby Wiser

She has her own room. Her own crib with adorable bumper, sheets, bedskirt, the works. She has a cradle in our room too. But this is how she prefers to sleep. So we tote around the seat from room to room when she naps- its actually quite convenient. And yes, she must be burrito wrapped as well. At this point if she slept well in the bath tub I would go for it. Its my new version of baby wise.

Baby Blues

Check out Leighton's amazing blue eyes. We've been expecting them to change and give Daddy his third brown eyed girl but it actually looks like she may keep her baby blues. She can thank Papa Dan for those. She can also thank him for her current hairstyle...bald on top with a little fringe around the edges.

Springtime at the cliffs

Every spring the flowers at Sunset Cliffs bloom and create the most amazing sight. Just months ago they were dead looking sticks poking out of the ground with no sign of life in them. But after spring rain and sunshine, the blooms are reborn. How incredible that something so beautiful can come from something seemingly dead and worthless.

Girlish Grin

Leighton's heart belongs to the 3 bug toys that hang from her bouncer seat. Nothing evokes such emotion in her as those do.
